Zone and Estate Management
Zones allow you to group devices by location within your scheme - making it easier to organise properties, assign user access, and understand exactly where alarms are triggered. You can create zones for buildings, floors, rooms, or other areas depending on the layout of your estate.
What Is a Zone?
Zones are logical groupings within a scheme used ti represent real-world locations. Devices and users are assigned to zones so that:
Devices are easier to locate and manage
Tenants only receive alerts relevant to their area
Accessing Estate Management
To view and manage zones:
Log into the Andel Cloud portal
In the menu at the top right of the screen, click "Estate"
You'll see a tree view of your current zone structure, including:
Parent zones (e.g. buildings)
Child zones (e.g. floors, rooms, areas)
If you click on a zone, you will see the details on the right:
Zone name
Zone type
Who it was created by and when
Zone Devices - the devices directly assigned to this zone
Child Zone Devices - the devices assigned to zones that are children of this zone
Assigned Tenants - the tenants assigned directly to this zone, who can access all zone devices and child zone devices
Creating and Editing a Zone
Click on an existing zone to select it as the parent (optional, having no zone selected will make the new zone a root level parent zone).
Click "Create" at the top of the zone list
Enter a name for the zone - this must be unique under its parent
Choose a zone type: Building, Floor, Room, or Area
(Optional) Assign available devices or tenants
All of these parameters can be changed after zone creation by clicking on the zone, then the "Edit" button at the top of the screen.
Deleting a Zone
To delete a zone:
Select the zone
Click "Delete" at the top of the zone list
Confirm the action
Deleting a zone will also:
Delete all of its child zones
Unassign any devices or tenants from those zones
Make sure you reassign any important devices or users before deleting.
Assigning Devices to Zones
There are three methods of assigned devices to zones:
When an installer is first configuring the device - see Commissioning Devices
Through the Estate menu - when creating or editing a zone, you can assign devices from the dropdown list. Devices already assigned to other zones will not appear.
Through the device's details menu - see Managing Devices
Assigning Tenants to Zones
Tenants are assigned to zones to define which devices they can access and receive alerts for.
A tenant can be assigned to multiple zones, but only once per branch
Tenants automatically inherit access to all child zones of any zone they're assigned to
Tenants do not gain access to devices in parent zones
This ensures access is granular and appropriate for their needs.
Example
TODO add screenshot showing:
Devices in "Flat 1A" are only visible to tenants assigned to that zone
A tenant assigned to "Floor 1" can see both flats below it
Devices in "Andel Court" are not visible to tenants assigned to Floor 1 or Flat 2A unless explicitly added
